Spring fish (Harutsuge fish) herring

Herring is called Harutsuge fish. "Herring" in Kanji. The reason why we write east on fish is that it comes with "eastern wind". A gorgeous building called "Herring Goten" remains as a cultural property in Otaru, Yoichi, Rumoi, etc. in Hokkaido, but it was built with the profits earned by the people who were the nets of herring fishing.
The "Toyu miscellaneous notes" written in 1788 states that "about 100 days of herring is taken during spring and March to be used for living all year round. One year's worth of 100 days of herring fishing. It is said that he earned money. The folk song "Soran Bushi" is known as a song of this herring fishing.
Most of the herring we are talking about now is imported from Russia, Norway, etc. The idyllic spring when plum blossoms bloom, white-eyes fly, and herrings come is just around the corner. (Excerpt from K newspaper)
